Greenberg shares individual lead at Nike Collegiate

FORT WORTH, Texas – Redshirt sophomore Mason Greenberg continued his stellar play at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational and is in a tie for the individual lead with a total of three-under par, 137 (66-71) at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas after two rounds of competition.  As a team, Vanderbilt fired a second-round score of 288 and are in fifth place on the team leader board with a score of nine-over par 569 (281-288).  The tournament concludes on Tuesday.

Greenberg, who fired a four-under par, bogey-free 66 on Sunday to open the tournament, finished his second day with a one-over 71.  The redshirt sophomore from Southlake, Texas had three birdies and four bogeys in his round on Monday, and is one of eight players atop the individual leader board after two rounds of play.

Greenberg led the Commodores on Tuesday with his second-round 71.  Other counting scores were pair of 72’s from junior John Augenstein and sophomore Harrison Ott, and a pair of 73’s from seniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin.

“It was definitely a battle out there today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh.  “I thought conditions were a little more difficult.  I am very proud of how the guys hung in there on the back nine.  That showed a lot of resilience after a really tough front nine. We had some trouble staying committed to shots and just got ourselves into some bad spots. We talk about having nine holes that you have to grind through in a tournament and we had that today on the front nine. We just have to continue to learn In those moments and be better from our experiences.”

Vanderbilt trails team leader Duke by 10 shots heading into the final round.  The Blue Devils are the only team at the event under par with a one-under 559 (285-274) total.

“Tomorrow is an important day for us because it effects where we want to go as a team,” said Limbaugh.  “It’s our next opportunity and one we need to embrace and be excited about. This is a great golf course and it rewards the tough and resilient players.”

The third and final round will conclude on Tuesday morning, with the Commodores beginning their round at 8:15 a.m. CT at Colonial.  Live stats can be found on Golfstat.com.
