Dores in 3rd at Rod Myers Invitational

Second Round Results

DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore John Augenstein carded a two-round score of 139 (72-67), including a second-round 67, to lead the Commodores in the first two rounds of play at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C. As a team, Vanderbilt is in third place with a team total of 565 (291-274) and trails second-place Oregon by one shot and first-place Wake Forest by seven shots.

Vanderbilt had the best second round of the day for Vanderbilt, with each Commodore posting rounds in the 60’s. Augenstein led the way with a 67, with four other Vanderbilt players, Will Gordon, Theo Humphrey, Patrick Martin, and Michael Decker each carding a second-round 69.

“First of all, I am really happy with how the boys battled this afternoon,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We had all five guys in there and that was a big step for us. We kind of challenged them after the first round and they responded well. In the first round, we simply hit a lot of very loose shots and made some big numbers which usually happens because of a lack of focus. I want our guys to continue to expect more from themselves and from each other.”

Augenstein is the team’s leader on the individual leader board and is in a tie for fourth individually. Gordon is in a tie for 10th, Humphrey in a tie for 16th, Martin in a tie for 21st, and Decker in a tie for 24th.

Augenstein trails individual leader Norman Xiong of Oregon by six shots heading into the final round, which takes place Sunday morning at the par-72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club.

“Tomorrow is our next opportunity and we need to be excited about that,” said Limbaugh. “It’s important because it affects where we want to go.”
