Vanderbilt Basketball Postgame Notes

Vanderbilt 62, Arkansas 76

Mar. 11, 2017 – Bridgestone Arena

SEC Tournament – Semifinals

Team Updates:

* Vanderbilt: Falls to 19-15 overall and now will be hoping to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the tournament field is revealed on Sunday.

* Arkansas: Improves to 25-8 and advances to Sunday’s SEC Tournament championship game against Kentucky.

Team Notes:

* The Commodores shot just 30.4 percent from the floor in Saturday’s loss, narrowly eclipsing their season-low mark of 30.2 percent against Minnesota on Dec. 3.

* Vanderbilt is now 39-54 all-time in the SEC Tournament and 6-7 all-time at Bridgestone Arena.

* Saturday’s game marked the 14th time that Vanderbilt played in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament, and the first since 2013.

* Vanderbilt earned the semifinals berth with a 72-62 victory over Florida in the quarterfinals.

* Vanderbilt and Arkansas split the two meetings during the regular season — with each team winning on the opponents’ home floor. (Arkansas won 71-70 in Nashville on Jan. 24, and Vanderbilt posted a 72-59 victory in Fayetteville on Feb. 7).

Player Notes:

* Luke Kornet set a school record for blocks on the team’s second defensive possession of the game. He finished with three blocks on the day and now has 207 for his career. He entered the day tied with Festus Ezeli at 204.

* Matthew Fisher-Davis needed only four points to go over 1,000 career points scored and he passed that mark with a 3-pointer in the second half.

* It was the second consecutive game that Vanderbilt had a player cross that career milestone. Riley LaChance surpassed the 1,000-point threshold in yesterday’s victory over Florida

Series Info:

* Arkansas now leads the all-time series, 24-12, and has a 4-1 edge over the Commodores in games played on a neutral floor.

This & That:

* Vanderbilt’s win over Texas A&M in the first round of this year’s tournament was the Commodores’ first victory in the SEC Tournament since 2013.

* Vanderbilt finished 8-of-31 from 3-point range in Saturday’s loss.

* Vanderbilt’s first field goal of Saturday’s game was a 3-pointer by Nolan Cressler, which extended Vanderbilt’s 3-point streak to 998 games. The Commodores are one of just three teams — along with UNLV and Princeton — to have made one 3-pointer in every game since the 3-point line was implemented at the start of the 1986-87 season.
