Dores begin GT Invite while Valent falls in ITAs

ATLANTA – ∫The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team represented the university in two separate tournaments Friday afternoon. Competing in the consolation draw of ITA All-Americans, Daniel Valent dropped a tough three-set match In Tulsa. The remainder of squad began play in Atlanta at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Facing USC’s Brandon Holt in the first round of the consolation draw, Valent took the first set in a decisive 6-3 victory. Earning a spot in the tournament’s main draw by battling through qualifying rounds, the Trojan battled back in the second set, 7-5, to force a pivotal third set. The Commodore was unable to capture the victory, as Holt secured the back draw win to advance, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
