CLEMSON, S.C. —The Vanderbilt track and field team is competing at the Bob Pollock Invitational, hosted by Clemson University, this weekend to conclude the regular season.

Day Two

Day two action began with the 1,500 meters, with Vanderbilt runners finishing first through fifth. Vanessa Valentine won the race in 4:41.91, followed by Kristen Smith (4:43.42), Jordan White (4:43.68), Amira Joseph (4:43.98) and Grace Orders (4:47.94). Clarie Benjamin was eighth in 4:45.50.

Faith Washington posted a win in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 56.76

Brionne Williams took home a win in the high jump, clearing 1.71 meters (5′ 7.25″), to top teammate Ellie Tidman. Tidman cleared 1.66 meters (5′ 5.25″) to place second.

The pole vault saw Morgan Toone place fifth, posting a mark of 3.62 meters (11′ 10.5″), while Alyson Hasty was right behind her in seventh with a mark of 3.47 meters (11′ 4.50″).

Next up for Vanderbilt are the 2013 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This year’s meet will be hosted by the University of Missouri, May 9-12.

Day One

The only Commodore competition on Friday night was the 1,500 meter invitational field. Lily Williams won the race, with Hannah Jumper placing fifth. Williams crossed the line unofficially in approximately 4:26 (official results will become available at the conclusion of the meet).

Assistant Coach Rhonda Riley was especially proud of the freshman Williams, running in less than ideal conditions.

“Lily was extremely tough,” Riley said. “Her splits were exactly where we wanted them to be, then the last 300 were tough running into the wind. We’re really pleased she was able to come through with a win.”

Riley is anxious to see how the Commodores perform in the final day of regular season action tomorrow, even with weather calling for showers and wind from 15-20 miles per hour.

“We’re really looking forward to our last tune-up for SECs tomorrow,” she concluded.
