COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After a record-setting week at the 2013 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, Vanderbilt’s season came to an end Saturday night at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.8614257.jpeg

During the five days of competition, Vanderbilt set 14 new school records (200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM and 50-yard freestyle).

“I am extremely happy and proud of our team,” said Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ. “We have worked very hard all year and it was exciting to see everyone excel at what was the fastest SEC meet ever.”

The Commodores finished 12th with 183 total points, while Georgia won the 2013 SEC Championship with 1,420 points. Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, Missouri, Kentucky, Alabama and South Carolina rounded out the standings.

Chrissy Oberg recorded the highest finish of the week for Vanderbilt, with her eighth-place finish in the B-Finals of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.51. Oberg advanced to the finals with a school record time of 1:56.34 in the prelims. In both 200-yard backstroke races, Oberg registered NCAA “B” qualifying times.

After this week’s performance, Oberg is now ranked No. 41 in the country in the 200 back.

Vanderbilt finished the meet with a bang in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Commodore relay team of Hannah Martin, Melissa Roberts, Lauren Torres and Caroline Thomas took down the school record by five seconds with a time of 3:25.28.

Caroline Thomas broke her own school record in the prelims of the 100-yard freestyle Saturday morning with a time of 50.93. She previously set the record last season with a time of 52.11. Thomas’ time just missed the cut for the finals.

Thomas is one of four Commodores to have broken more than one individual school records during the week. Elly Faulkner broke school marks in the 100 breaststroke and 200-yard IM, while Lauren Torres owns records in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. Oberg has the program’s best times in the 100 and 200-yard back. All four were also members of at least one relay team to set a new school record.
