NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Texas A&M proved to be too much for the Vanderbilt swim team, as the Aggies defeated the Commodores, 154.5-98.5 at Centennial Sportsplex, Saturday afternoon. A&M, the 2013 SEC runners-up, won all 14 events on the afternoon. Vandy picked up 10 top-three finishes, with Chrissy Oberg picking up the highest finish for the ‘Dores in the 200 back.
Both Chrissy Oberg and Elly Faulkner swam great for the Commodores and showed that they can compete with some of the big names in the SEC.
Oberg took second in the 200-yard backstroke finishing with a time of 2:05.20. She was also able to take third in the 100 back with a time of 58.12.
Faulkner was able to take third in both the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM. In the breaststroke the junior touched the wall with a time of 2:21.17, in the IM she finished at 2:09.89.
One of the most exciting races of the day came earlier on in the 1000-yard freestyle. Freshman Kathryn Babbin was in a tight race with A&M’s Cayla Jetter for second-place. Despite Babbin’s 30.59 split on the last 50, she finished 1/100th off Jetter, coming in at 10:36.47.
Vanderbilt will be back in the pool again on November 2, when it travels south to New Orleans to take on Tulane.
