Dores rally, end 1st day of Red Wolf in 5th

First Day Results

JONESBORO, Ark. – After a slow start to the 36-hole day of the Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate, the Commodores rallied in the second 18 holes and moved 14 spots on the leaderboard to finish the day in a tie for fifth heading into the final day of play on Tuesday.

A few teams have not completed their second round, and the final 18 holes will be played immediately following the conclusion of the second round.

Meanwhile Will Snipes, who is competing as an individual in the tournament, is tied for the lead with fellow Commodores Charlie Ewing. Snipes shot an opening-round 68 and he followed with an even-par 71, while Ewing fired a three-under par 68 in the second round after an even-par 71 in the opening round.

It looked like it was going to be a long day for Vanderbilt early on in the day, as the Commodores fell to 19th on the leaderboard in a 22-team field. After finishing the first round with a team total of 299, VU regrouped, and ended the day in a tie for fourth with Troy heading into the final day. The Commodores have between one and two holes remaining on their second round.

“We showed some resolve today after a bad start,” said Vanderbilt head coach Tom Shaw. “I’m happy for Snipes to see him playing well, and Charlie Ewing played well today. We’ve got the pieces in place and now we have to finish strong tomorrow.”

Other counting scores for Vanderbilt in the second round included an even-par 71 from freshman Ben Fogler, a 72 from fellow freshman Hunter Stewart, and a pair of 73’s from seniors Trey DelGreco and Adam Hofmann.

The final round concludes on Tuesday.
