Bowlers Seize First Day Lead

Feb. 24, 2012

BESSEMER, ALA—Vanderbilt won all five of its games and was also the first-round leader in pin fall Friday at Alabama A&M’s annual Holiday Classic.

The Commodores lead second-place Central Missouri by 245 pins while Arkansas State sits in third place.Vanderbilt defeated Central in the afternoon’s first game (4-game Baker sets) and then proceeded to dispatch Arkansas State, Southern, Tulane and host Alabama A&M.

“We came out and executed well,” Coach John Williamson said. “We stuck with the same lineup all day long because we seemed to me to be doing all the things we do when we are bowling well. I thought Jess, Sam, Brittni…actually I thought everyone had their moments today.”

Vanderbilt’s workmanlike day resulted in winning 16 of the 20 Baker games while having 60% of its own scores north of 200.

The Commodores return to the Holiday Lanes tomorrow morning with play starting at 9:30 a.m. Five team games are on tap; vucommodores.com will be represented and expects to file a more complete report tomorrow evening.
