NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Jenn Mann broke two school records on Wednesday afternoon at the Centennial Sportsplex, as Vanderbilt swimming came up just short versus conference foe LSU.8175180.jpeg

Mann set school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as she blazed by all the competition. In her first individual collegiate race, Mann won the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.09, which was two seconds faster than the second-place finisher from LSU.

The previous record was held by Allie Voss (1:04.11), which she set in 2009.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, Mann made the race look just as easy as she finished in a time of 2:15.03, and more than two seconds faster than the competition. Mann smashed the school record, as Laura Dillon set the record in 2010 with a time of 2:18.16.

Chrissy Oberg picked up a win in the 200 yard backstroke, as she cruised to the finish with a time of 2:01.95.

Oberg and Mann recorded the only wins for Vanderbilt on the day as LSU took home victories in 11 of the 14 events.

Overall, Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ said he was pleased with the way his team competed versus LSU.

“I think they did a really good job today not only in executing our races, but finishing our races,” Organ said. “One of our goals is to be more competitive in meets like this, and today I think we were.”

Fellow freshman Hannah Martin also had an impressive home debut as she registered two second-place finishes in the 100 back (57.85) and 50 free (24.73).

Caroline Thomas finished second in the 100 free with a time of 53.30 and the Commodores’ two relay “A” teams recorded second-place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Oberg, Mann, Thomas and Lauren Torres combined to make up the 200 medley relay team, as they finished in a time of 1:48.22. Thomas, Martin, Torres and Sarah Lynch were on the 200 free relay which came in with a time of 1:38.21.

Vanderbilt will have two weeks off before the home dual with Alabama, which is Oct. 26 at the Centennial Sportsplex. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
