Pregame Notes

  • Vanderbilt is in its 127th year of organized football.
  • The Commodores wore an all black uniform for the first time this season.
  • Ole Miss won the coin toss and elected to receive. Vanderbilt defended the north end zone.
  • Attendance was 27,763.
  • Vanderbilt captains for the game were Ralph Webb, Ryan White, Oren Burks and Zach Cunningham.

Team Notes

  • The 38 points scored is the most points scored in an SEC game under Derek Mason. It is the most points in an SEC game for the Commodores since Nov. 17, 2012, when they defeated Tennessee 41-17.
  • Vanderbilt snapped a three game losing streak to Ole Miss with the win.
  • The Commodores led 14-10 at the half. It is the sixth time this season they have had a lead going into halftime. The Commodores are now 5-1 in those games.
  • The win moves their record to 5-6, which is one more win than the team had last season.

Individual Notes

  • Ralph Webb eclipses the 3,000-yard rushing mark for his career on the five-yard rush in the first quarter.
  • Webb has rushed for over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season after his performance against Ole Miss. He joins Zac Stacy as the only Commodores to have consecutive 1,000 seasons in school history.
  • Webb scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. It was his third rushing touchdown of the game and second three-touchdown game of the season.
  • Webb finished with 123 yards on 20 carries. It was his fifth 100 yard game this season and 11th of his career.
  • Zach Cunningham had five tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery against Ole Miss. He moves into third all-time in school history for tackles-for-loss.
  • Cunningham recovered his third fumble of the season and sixth of his career halfway through the third quarter.
  • Kyle Shurmur had 273 yards and two touchdowns against Ole Miss. It was the first time in his career he has had over 200 yards passing in three consecutive games.
  • Shurmur hit Trent Sherfield out in the open field for a 67-yard reception late in the first quarter. It was the longest pass play for the Commodores this season.
  • The 67-yard pass was a career long for Shurmur and a career-long reception for Sherfield.
  • Ralph Webb punched it in for a four-yard touchdown late in the first quarter.
  • Jay Woods and Arnold Tarpley combined for their first sacks of the season early in the second quarter.
  • Darrius Sims hauled in a career-long 39-yard reception in the second quarter. Three plays later, the Commodores scored a touchdown on the drive.
  • Trent Sherfield corralled a five-yard reception in the second quarter for his first touchdown of the season.
  • Jonathan Wynn also recorded his first sack of the season late in the third quarter on 3rd-and-9.
  • Bailey McElwain had his first career rushing attempt and caught his first career touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
  • Donaven Tennyson earned his first career start against Ole Miss.

Offensive Notes

  • Kyle Shurmur completed 6-of-14 passes in the first half for 145 yards and one touchdown including passes for 67 and 39 yards.
  • Ralph Webb rushed 10 times for 31 yards and a rushing touchdown in the first half.
  • Trent Sherfield caught two passes for a season-high 72 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
  • C.J. Duncan lead the Commodores with four receptions for 40 yards. Seven different Commodores caught passes Saturday night.
  • Seven different Commodores had rushing attempts against Ole Miss. The team finished with 46 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensive Notes

  • Taurean Ferguson led the team with four tackles in the first half.
  • The ‘Dores tallied two sacks and four tackles-for-loss in the first half.
  • Zach Cunningham had three tackles, one tackle-for-loss and one pass breakup on third down in the first half.
  • The Commodores have forced at least one turnover in ten games this season after Zach Cunningham’s fumble recovery in the third quarter.

Special Teams Notes

  • Sam Loy had five punts in the first half and averaged 39 yards per punt. He finished with eight punts and an average of 36.6 yards per punt.
  • Tommy Openshaw hit his only field goal of the game from 24-yards out. He has hit 13 field goals this season.
