VANDERBILT NOTES

  • With the victory Vanderbilt improves to 16-5 in NCAA Regionals under head coach Tim Corbin and 19-14 overall in NCAA Regionals in program history.
  • Sonny Gray improved to 11-3 for the season and posted his 26th career victory in Black and Gold. Gray is now second on the all-time wins list behind only Jeff Peeples (1970-73), who recorded 29 career victories.
  • Curt Casali’s first-inning double moved him alone into 10th place on the all-time list with 51, breaking a tie with Karl Nonemaker (1999-02), Andy Kropf (1997-00), Alan Purdy (1990-93) and Josh Adeeb (1996-98).
  • Aaron Westlake moved alone into seventh place on the all-time hits list with his double in the fourth inning, breaking a tie with David Macias (2005-08). He added a single in the fourth and now has 257 career hits at VU.

BELMONT NOTES

  • Belmont loses its first-ever game in the NCAA Tournament. The loss also ended a six-game losing streak for the Bruins that included the final two games of the regular season (which were both needed to qualify for the conference tournament) and four victories in the Atlantic Sun Championships.
  • Belmont dropped to 0-2 this season against Vanderbilt this season and 2-4 versus the SEC in 2011.
  • The Bruins dropped to 1-13 this season when allowing nine runs or more. It marked the seventh time this season the BU staff allowed double-digit runs, with Belmont posting a 1-6 record in those contests.
