BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Vanderbilt freshman Brionne Williams placed 18th out of 48 competitors in the high jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Round this afternoon at Indiana University.

Williams easily cleared her first three jumps of 1.65m, 1.70m and 1.75m, but was unable to advance at 1.78m. Clearing 1.75m (5’8.75″) was a personal best for Williams, who will be competing at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.

“Brionne had a great finish to her freshman season today,” said jumps coach Clark Humphreys. “Her jump today is tied for second best in school history, equaling Buky Bamigboye’s performance from last year’s SEC Championship meet.”

The Commodores wrap up competition at the preliminary meet tomorrow evening, as freshman Liz Anderson is scheduled for the 5,000-meter race at 7:05 pm CT.
