Dores host Black & Gold meet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Despite cold and cloudy conditions, the Commodores hosted their annual Black & Gold Meet at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex on Saturday.

Brionne Williams placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.69m (5’6.5″) while Elizabeth Smith came in 11th with a height of 1.49m (4’10.5″). In the long jump, Nia Washington reached 4.71m (15’5.5″). Washington also competed in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 17.21. In the 400 meter hurdles, Lacy Moore clocked in at 1:05.53.

The Commodores had four women place in the pole vault, with Meagan Martin pacing the field. She cleared a height of 3.70m (12’1.5″), which tops the school record of 12’0.5″ which was set last spring. Katherine Hendricks cleared 3.60m (11’9.75″) which placed her fourth overall, while Alyson Hasty posted a height of 3.25m (10’8″), good for 10th place. Jordan Sala cleared 3.10m (10’2″).

“Meagan had a phenomenal performance today which ended with a new school record,” said assistant coach Clark Humphreys. “Brionne Williams had a good showing today with a second place finish. Her timing was a little off, which was expected after not competing since the indoor conference meet, but she’s really hungry to make up for lost time. The next two weekends should be exciting for the jump squad.”

In the 3000 meter run, Vanderbilt had five of the top seven finishers, led by freshman Liz Anderson. Anderson, who clocked in a 9:45.89, stands in fourth overall in Vanderbilt history. Louise Hannallah came in second at 9:51.49, followed by Kristabel Doebel-Hickok at third (9:57.11) and Adrienne DiRaddo at fourth (9:59.98). Megan Yohe rounded out the Commodores at seventh with a time of 10:24.42. Doebel-Hickok and DiRaddo both posted personal best times.

“Liz and Louise had a really great run in the 3K,” said distance coach Steve Keith. “They worked together and worked a hard pace. With Kristabel and Adrienne getting personal records as seniors, I think that’s fantastic.

Jordan White and Alexa Rogers took second and fourth place in the 1500 meter with times of 4:28.64 and 4:35.14, respectively. White’s time was four seconds better than her previous personal best in the 1500.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Anna Carr Hawkins, Taylor Jackson, Teegan Hill and Josalyn White clocked in at 46.98, good for fourth place. Their finish was less than three tenths of a second off the first-place team who clocked in at 46.73 seconds. In the 400 meter race, Hill posted a time of 59.00 seconds.

Vanderbilt had 10 women race in the 100-meter dash, which included several pole vaulters. Hawkins placed second overall with a time of 12.14 seconds. Renee Maggart clocked in at 14.06, while Hasty was right behind at 14.07 seconds. In her third event of the day, Washington clocked in at 14.19 seconds. Williams (14.27), Morgan Toone (14.29), Hendricks (14.35), Martin (14.41), Sala (14.44) and Smith (15.32) also raced.

Rita Jorgensen led the field in the 800-meter race by nearly five seconds. She clocked in at 2:08.75, while Jillian Currie posted a time of 2:33.00 and Emily Boldt finished in 2:39.44.

Members of the Vanderbilt men’s cross country team competed in the 3000 meter race today, with Alan Ash leading the squad with a time of 8:49.05, good for 11th place. Kyle Rewick and Jenner Kizer rounded out the top 15 with times of 8:57.08 and 8:58.64, respectively.

The meet was cancelled due to lightening in the area before the women’s 200 meter race, the 2000 meter steeplechase and the 4×400 meter relays were started.

The Commodores return to action next weekend at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. as well as the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn. Complete results from both meets will be posted to vucommodores.com.
