Commodores fly by Golden Eagles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Second-ranked Vanderbilt used seven pitchers and pounded out 11 hits en route to an 11-2 win over Tennessee Tech Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.

Connor Harrell’s two-run homer in the fourth inning broke a 2-2 tie before the Commodores added four runs in the seventh and three more runs in the eighth inning to finish off the Golden Eagles. Seven different Dores had at least one hit led by Harrell’s two hits and three RBI. Anthony Gomez, Aaron Westlake and Mike Yastrzemski all added two his in the win. Yastrzemski drove in two runs and Gomez extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Freshmen Josh Lee and Joel McKeithan each recorded their first collegiate hits with singles in the eighth inning. Evan Frazier provided Tennessee Tech’s only offense with a two-run homer in the second inning.

T.J. Pecoraro earned the win with two scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen. Tennessee Tech starter Jake McWhirter took the loss allowing four runs on five hits over five innings. Relievers Sam Selman, Jack Armstrong, Will Clinard, Mark Lamm and Navery Moore all pitched one scoreless inning for Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt travels to Arkansas this weekend to take on the Razorbacks in the Commodores’ first SEC road test. Game times at Baum Stadium are Friday at 6:35 p.m., Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
