Charlie Ewing leads MG at Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. – Vanderbilt freshman Charlie Ewing shot a first-round 73 to pace the Commodore effort in the first round of play at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., and is in a tie for 25th heading into the second round on Saturday. Vanderbilt is in 12th place as a team with a total of 302.

The 32nd annual Schenkel Invitational is being played at the par-72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club, and features five teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin Top-25 rankings and six teams that participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Auburn leads the tournament with a nine-under par, 279, three strokes better than second-place Florida. The Gators’ Bank Vongvanij leads all individuals with a six-under par, 66. Auburn’s Blayne Barber is second after firing a first-round 68.
