Bowlers in championship round

Feb. 19, 2011

BALTIMORE, Md. — Vanderbilt finished third in total pin fall and advanced to tomorrow’s championship bracket at the Morgan State Invitational Saturday. The Commodores trailed Nebraska and Maryland-Eastern Shore and will face UMES tomorrow in the best four-of-seven Baker series.

Vanderbilt started out strong but trailed off in its last two games and actually was upset by Norfolk State in the last match of the afternoon to finish on a sour note.

“We have a hard time clicking for the whole day,” said a disappointed John Williamson. “These are long days and we can’t simulate them in practice – we can’t practice six or seven hours – but neither can anyone else. All the things we were doing well in the first three games seemed to evaporate in the last two. Since the won-loss record is a factor in making the NCAA Tournament – and given our poor fall performance – I’d think we would have a greater sense of urgency than we seem to have.”

All-American Brittni Hamilton and Jessica Earnest led the Commodores Saturday, each with four games over 200.
