Hofmann in 3rd at Prestige

LaQUINTA, Calif. – Senior Adam Hofmann fired a five-under par, 67, in the first round of The Prestige at PGA West in LaQuinta, Calif., and is in third place on the individual leaderboard. As a team, the Commodores are in seventh place at even par, 288.

Hofmann posted six birdies and a bogey in his opening 18 holes at the Norman Course at PGA West. The Commodore senior trails Spencer Fletcher of Arizona State and Andrew Yun of Stanford by one stroke for the individual lead.

Fellow senior Trey DelGreco also was under par for Vanderbilt on Sunday. DelGreco shot a two-under par, 70, and is in a tie for 12th. The Commodores also counted a 75 from freshman Hunter Stewart and a 76 from sophomore Charlie Ewing. Sophomore Mills Rendellshot an 80 in his first 18 holes at the Norman Course.

Oregon leads The Prestige after the first round with a nine-under par, 279. The Ducks lead second-place Stanford and Washington by one stroke.

“Adam and Trey really led the team today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Tom Shaw. “I thought that for most of the round we looked great. The guys had a small hiccup on the back nine, but overall fought hard to finish off a solid opening round.”

The second round of the tournament continues Monday with a 12:30 p.m. Pacific time shotgun start.
