Dores drop to 11th at SEC's

SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team dropped to 11th following day two of the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.

A mere six strokes back of the lead following day one, the Commodores carded an 18-over 298 on Saturday to fall from ninth to 11th place in the field of 12 league teams.

Vanderbilt’s best score in Saturday’s second round was a three-over 73 turned in by senior Hudson Johnson. Johnson (T-22nd) and sophomore Trey DelGreco (T-24th) are three- and four-over, respectively, heading into Sunday’s third and final round.

Junior Ryan Haselden scored a 74, while senior Chris Rockwell had a 75. The Commodores will tee off on the 10th hole Sunday, leaving at 8:50 a.m. ET with Mississippi State and Alabama.

Defending champion Georgia is the 36-hole leader by four strokes over Arkansas. Tennessee, South Carolina and LSU round out the top five. Individually, only seven players stand under par, with George Bryan of South Carolina and Hunter Hamrick of Alabam sharing the individual lead at four-under.

Designed by famed course designer Thomas Fazio, the Seaside Course opened in 2005. The SEC Golf Tournament has been played at Sea Island since 2001, and returns to the Seaside Course for the first time since 2007. The Sea Island Golf Club has enjoyed a legacy as one of America’s premier golf clubs since it opened in 1927.
