MG: Ninth after day 2 at Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team moved to ninth place after the second day of action at the 2010 Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational at Forest Heights Golf Club.

Senior Hudson Johnson carded a bogey-free round of two-under 70 to lead the Commodores on Saturday. Johnson moved into the Top 10 of the tournament’s 81-man field.

Junior Ryan Haselden was three-under at the turn after an eagle on seven and a birdie on eight, but he went four-over on the back and finished with a one-over 73. Haselden moved from ninth to 17th with 18 holes to play Sunday.

Senior Chris Rockwell also shot a one-over 73, matching his day-one total. Rockwell is tied for 30th. Sophomore Trey DelGreco also scored for the Commodores with a three-over 75. Sophomore Charlie Grace had a six-over 76.

North Florida opened up a seven-stroke lead over second place Auburn with a nine-under 279. Virginia, North Carolina State and Ole Miss round out the top five. At six-over, the Commodores are only two strokes behind a sixth-place tie between LSU and Alabama. Host Georgia Southern is eighth in the 15-team field.

UNF’s Kevin Phelan and J.C. Horne rank first and second individually at eight-under and six-under, respectively. A total of 16 players are under par through 36 holes.

Sunday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. ET with Vanderbilt, LSU and Georgia Southern teeing off on the first hole.
