TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Capping off a record-setting year for Vanderbilt cross country, sophomore Jordan White finished 112th out of 255 runners at the NCAA Championships Monday afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.

White was just seconds off her personal best in the 6K, clocking in at 21:24. Villanova won its second consecutive NCAA Championship with 120 points. Villanova’s Sheila Reid was the overall meet champion with a time of 20:07.

“Jordan ran a really solid race and I know she’s happy with it,” said cross country head coach Steve Keith. “We had a goal of top 100 and she was right there. In a race with this many people, 10 seconds can be the difference of 25 places.”

White’s performance was the best finish for a Vanderbilt runner at the NCAA Championship meet. The Commodores previous best came in 1997 when Pamela Johnson finished 134th out of 180 runners.

“This was a great first experience for her,” commented Keith. “She definitely wants to get back here with the team and lead two or three girls with her in the top 100. We’ll use this race as a building block for next season.”

Six of Vanderbilt’s top seven runners from this season will return for 2011 with hopes of making it to the NCAA Championship meet.
