GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Vanderbilt’s track and field wrapped up a quiet first day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships while battling rain and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium Thursday.

VU’s Mallory Hitt was the lone Commodore to compete Thursday as she participated in four events of the seven-event heptathlon. Hitt recorded a season-high 15.16 in the 100-meter hurdles before jumping 5-3.00 in the high jump. After the high jump, Hitt collected 458 points after throwing the shot put 8.91 meters before closing out the night with a 26.63 in the 200-meter dash. The former St. Joseph’s Academy prep standout currently sits in 11th-place heading into tomorrow’s final three events of the heptathlon.

The second day of the SEC Championships will continue tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium. The meet’s field events begin at 2 p.m. EST with the running events to follow at 6 p.m. EST.
