Men's tennis loses at No. 2 Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Fresh off a 4-3 win at No. 60 Mississippi State on Friday, No. 53 Vanderbilt ran into a buzz saw Sunday in the form of No. 2-ranked Ole Miss, who topped the Commodores, 6-1, on Senior Day at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

The win moved Ole Miss to 18-2 overall and 8-0 in the Southeastern Conference. Vanderbilt fell to 5-13 overall and 1-7 in the SEC. The match was the final regular season road match for the Commodores, who fell to 2-6 in true road matches this season. Vanderbilt will now close the regular season with three straight home matches.

Earning Vanderbilt’s point against Ole Miss was sophomore Bryant Salcedo who defeated No. 29 Devin Britton in a supertiebreaker, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-7, in the No. 2 position. The win halted a 10-match losing skid for Salcedo.

Ole Miss took the doubles point and first three completed singles matches to earn the win. Picking up a win in doubles play for Vanderbilt was Nick Cromydas and Vijay Paul, who topped Ole Miss’ duo of Devin Britton and Tucker Vorster in the No. 2 position. The win came when Ole Miss’ duo retired trailing 5-4 in the match.

Vanderbilt will return to the courts next weekend to face Georgia and Tennessee at the Currey Tennis Center.
