MG finishes 12th at Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished in a tie for 12th place at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.

Senior Jon Curran notched a Top 20 finish in the three-day, 54-hole event, played on Forest Heights’ par-72, 6,962-yard layout. Curran shot even-par in Sunday’s final round to end the event at two-over in a tie for 20th.

Sophomore Adam Hofmann and freshman Trey DelGreco also played well on Sunday. DelGreco shot a one-over 73, his low round of the tournament, to close out the tournament in a tie for 42nd. Hofmann finished at four-over for the tournament, tying for 32nd place.

As a team, Vanderbilt finished tied with LSU for 12th place at 22-over. The Commodores were one stroke behind 10th place Virginia and two strokes back of No. 9 North Florida. South Carolina won the event by two strokes over Tennessee and North Carolina State. Florida and Kentucky rounded out the top five. North Carolina State’s Matt Hill took medalist honors at seven-under.

The Commodores will have a week off before traveling to Jackson, Miss., for the Reunion Intercollegiate (April 6-7). The Southeastern Conference Championships are then scheduled for April 17-19 in Sea Island, Ga.
