VU still 11th after second round at Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team remains in a three-way tie for 11th place after round two of the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.

Senior Jon Curran and sophomores Adam Hofmann and Ryan Haselden paced the Commodores on Saturday, each shooting one-over 73 on on Forest Heights’ par-72, 6,962-yard layout.

Haselden was the only Commodore to improve on his day-one score in Saturday’s second round, with the four other Dores all matching their Friday performance. Haslden shaved two strokes off his first 18, thanks in part to an eagle on the first hole (his 10th hole of the day). After a long drive on the 394-yard par four, Haselden knocked a wedge in from over 50 yards out.

The Southeastern Conference remains atop the tournament leaderboard, with South Carolina and Florida currently tied at three-over. Day-one leader Tennessee stands only one stroke behind, with North Carolina State fourth and Kentucky tied with host Georgia Southern for fifth.

Vanderbilt stands only 11 strokes out of the lead, tied with Oklahoma and Virginia at 11th place in the 18-team field. The Commodores are only six strokes out of the tournament’s top five, and two strokes back of LSU and Ole Miss, who are tied for ninth place.

Along with the one-over performances of Haselden, Hofmann and Curran, the Commodores’ scored a three-over from freshman Trey DelGreco.

Hofmann and Curran are tied for 23rd in the field of 96 golfers, while Haselden is tied for 45th position. Freshman Trey DelGreco is tied for 56th, while senior Tyler Matthews is tied for 70th at four-over.

The Commodores will tee off at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday, leaving from the 10th tee with Oklahoma and LSU for the third and final round.
