MG tied for third at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team is in a tie for third place with Clemson after the first day of competition at the Furman Intercollegiate after posting a team total of five-over par, 293, six strokes behind the leader, Tennesseee-Chattanooga, who shot a one-under par, 287.

Jon Curran and Brett Lange each shot a 71 to open the tournament, which has them in a tie for third individually. Both posted four birdies and three bogeys in their rounds on Friday. The Commodores also counted the scores of Hudson Johnson, who carded a two-over 74, and Ryan Haselden, who fired a five-over par 77. Billy Whalen shot a first-round 79 to round out the Vanderbilt scores on Friday.

UTC holds a one stroke lead over South Carolina, who shot an even par, 288, on Friday. The Commodores and Clemson Tigers are tied for third heading into the second round on Saturday.

Jonathan Hodge of Chattanooga leads all individuals after shooting a first-round 69. Peter McGibney of Francis Marion is in second place at two-under par, 70.

The second round of the Furman Intercollegiate continues Saturday at the Furman University Golf Club.
