SORRENTO, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s golf team is in 16th place with a team score of 599 (302-297) after the second round of the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., on Monday. Commodore freshman Megan Grehan fired a second-round 68, which tied for the second-lowest round of the day, and is currently in a tie for 16th place to lead all Vanderbilt golfers.

“Megan had a great round today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “She finished strong yesterday on her final 14 holes, and it carried over to today. We just needed someone to play well to get us going. I think it’s contagious, and I hope we can take her momentum and use it as a team.”

The Commodores, who posted a 295 on Monday, were penalized before the second round began seven strokes because Vanderbilt junior Jacqui Concolino played the wrong ball after hitting her tee shot out of bounds. Concolino disqualified herself from yesterday’s round, which made the Commodores count Julie Bartholomew’s 81 from Sunday instead of her 74, and fired a 78 today.

“It’s the beauty of our game,” said Allen. “She did the right thing, just like I think every one of our players would have done the right thing.”

Other Vanderbilt scores for the tournament include Leibelei Lawrence, who is in a tie for 28th place with a 146 (72-74), Brooke Goodwin, who is in the clubhouse with a 150 (73-77, T-60), and Julie Bartholomew, who posted a score of 159 (81-78, T-86).

The 68 was a career low for Grehan, who has started in every tournament this season.

Duke leads the tournament by eight strokes and has a two-round total of 564 (282-282, -12). The Blue Devils’ Alison Whitaker and Amanda Blumenherst are currently 1-2 in the race for medalist honors and have scores of 136 (65-71) and 137 (69-68), respectively.

The final round concludes Tuesday at the RedTail Golf Club.
