MG: Day Two Results At John Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will head into Tuesday’s final round at the 2008 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in 12th place.

The Commodores matched Sunday’s first round score of 14-over 302 on Monday at the Sawgrass Country Club. Vanderbilt dropped back one spot in the second round, but at 28-over for the event the Commodores stand only one stroke behind 21st-ranked Indiana.

Alabama leads the outstanding 15-team field at seven-over, two strokes ahead of host North Florida. UCLA, Charlotte and Tennessee round out the top five. Poor weather conditions forced a 90-minute delay during Monday’s second round, but teams were able to return after a break and finish play.

Sophomore Chris Rockwell led the Commodores for the second consecutive day. Rockwell followed up Sunday’s one-over 73 with a two-over 74 on Monday. He currently ranks in a tie for 18th place at three-over.

Sophomore Hudson Johnson also shot a two-over 74 on Monday, and stands in a tie for 29th place at five-over.

Senior Billy Whalen rebounded from a tough day on Sunday. He shaved 10 strokes off his first round score, shooting a three-over 75.

Junior Jon Curran also scored for the Commodores on Monday, carding a seven-over 79. Freshman Ben Klaus’ nine-over 81 was dropped from VU’s team total.

The third and final round of the event tees off Tuesday morning. Grouped with UAB and Indiana, the Commodores will tee off from the 10th hole at 9:03 a.m. ET.
