Curran ninth at BOT Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior Jon Curran carded his second consecutive under-par round to finish in a tie for ninth at the 2008 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges.

A one-under 71 on Sunday helped Curran move from 18th place after two rounds into a Top 10 finish for the 16th time in his collegiate career.

Despite Curran’s performance, the Commodores struggled over the final 18 holes and fell from sixth place to 13th overall. Junior Hudson Johnson and sophomores Adam Hofmann and Ryan Haselden also scored for Vanderbilt in the final round.

Coastal Carolina won the event by one stroke over host East Tennessee State. Wake Forest, North Carolina State and Ole Miss rounded out the top five.

Individually, N.C. State’s Darren Blair won going away, besting four players tied for second place by a five-stroke margin.

Vanderbilt concludes its 2008 Fall schedule next week, traveling to the 2008 Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Cashiers, N.C., hosted by Western Carolina.
