MG: Day One Results at Shoal Creek

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will look for a strong final round performance on Tuesday after falling to 12th place in the first two rounds of the Shoal Creek Invitational Monday at Shoal Creek Country Club.

Senior John Ebert led the Commodores with the most consistent pair of rounds Monday. Ebert shot a four-over 76 in the morning before carding a three-over 75 in the afternoon. The Charlotte, N.C., product ranks in a tie for 30th place with 18 holes left to play.

Junior Jon Curran stands one stroke behind Ebert in a tie for 37th. Curran shot an opening round of 79 before rebounding to shoot a one-over 73 in the second round. Sophomore Hudson Johnson shot the team’s low first round, a two-over 74, but put up an 80 in the second round to finish the day at 10-over.

Senior Brett Lange struggled in the first round, posting a 10-over 82. But Lange improved in the afternoon by nine strokes to card a one-over 73. Freshman Ben Klaus, playing in his first collegiate event, scored a five-over 77 on Monday morning before returning in the afternoon with a nine-over 81.

Texas Tech holds a five-stroke lead in the team competition. Host UAB stands in second, two strokes ahead of Auburn. Oklahoma and Ole Miss round out the top five. The Commodores are seven strokes behind 11th place Nevada.

Individually, North Florida’s Chris Kennedy holds a one-stroke advantage over Zach Sucher of UAB.
