MG: Carpet Capital Collegiate Results

DALTON, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team rebounded on Sunday to shoot a one-over 289 in the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club.

The Commodores gained one spot, moving ahead of North Carolina State into 17th place. Vanderbilt’s 289 on Sunday was the day’s fourth-lowest score.

Alabama shot a six-under 282 to catch first place South Carolina, and the Crimson Tide won the first playoff hole to capture the team title. Georgia Tech, Auburn and Duke rounded out the top five.

Junior Jon Curran paced the Commodores, shooting a two-under 70 on Sunday to move into a tie for 28th place. Freshman Adam Hofmann, competing in his first collegiate event, shot a three-over 73 to finish second for the Commodores and 52nd overall.

Sophomores Hudson Johnson and Chris Rockwell also scored on Sunday, shooting 72 and 74, respectively. Senior Billy Whalen finished the tournament as the Commodores’ third lowest golfer at 13-over.

Georgia Tech’s Chesson Hadley led wire-to-wire on his way to medalist honors. Hadley beat Alabama’s Michael Thompson by three strokes.

Vanderbilt’s season continues in eight days, when the Commodores travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Shoal Creek Invitational.
