Joe Fisher discusses Corbin staying at Vanderbilt
Baseball Coach Tim Corbin announced this morning that he will not pursue overtures from the University of Oregon and that he will remain at Vanderbilt University.
Corbin, the 2007 Southeastern Conference “Coach of the Year” has been in the limelight since building the Commodore program into a national power since arriving in 2003. In that time Vanderbilt has won the Southeastern Conference regular season and post-season tournament, reached three NCAA Tournament fields, and rewrote the school record book. His career mark at Vanderbilt is 198-102.
In 2007 the Commodores won a school record 54 games and were rated No.1 in the nation for 15 of the 17-week long season. In the process, pitcher David Price was the consensus national player of the year and the first pick in the Major League Draft.
“I am very pleased that Tim has renewed his commitment to Vanderbilt,” said Nicholas S. Zeppos, Vanderbilt’s Interim Chancellor. “He has built a great college baseball program that makes us all proud to be Commodores, and I look forward to watching him pace the third base line at Hawkins Field for a long time to come.”
“Tim Corbin is the Tiger Woods of collegiate baseball coaches,” says Vice Chancellor David Williams. “Coach Corbin has not only been a tremendous baseball coach, he is an equally outstanding ambassador of this University and its ideals and values. We are pleased he is a Commodore.”
Corbin will meet with members of the media Wednesday afternoon.
