Men's Golf in Sixth at Courtyard

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in sixth place after the first day of action at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate, hosted at the Devil’s Ridge Golf Club.

Senior Luke List (fourth) and sophomore Jon Curran (eighth) are both in the top 10 with 18 holes left to play on Saturday.

The Commodores were tied for second after the first of two rounds on Friday after shooting a two-under 286 during the morning’s action. An afternoon 293 (plus-five) dropped VU back four spots into sixth.

Tulsa (minus-10) holds a two-stroke lead over Charlotte. Duke, Georgia Southern and host N.C. State round out the top five of the 15-team field.

The individual lead stands at eight-under, with Charlotte’s Jonas Enander Hedin and Tulsa’s Mitch Cohlmia tied at the top. Georgia Southern’s Jordan Johnston stands one stroke back at seven-under, with List in fourth at six-under.

At three-under, Curran stands only five strokes off the lead in a tie for eighth place. Freshman Chris Rockwell, junior Billy Whalen and junior John Ebert also scored for the Commodores on Friday.

The Commodores begin Saturday’s final round at 8:39 a.m. ET.

Next week, the Commodores travel to Sea Island, Ga., for the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships.
