Commodores 12th After Day One of Hootie

AWENDAW, S.C. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the first of three days at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in 12th place.

Senior Luke List paced the Commodores with an even-par 71. List recorded birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to make it back to even, and stands in a tie for 19th place after the first 18 holes.

Sophomore Jon Curran parred his final 14 holes after opening up at one-over after four holes. Curran is tied for 28th place after carding a first round of 72.

Freshman Chris Rockwell started his day with a double-bogey on the second hole, but the Owings Mills, Md., native would calm down on the back side — going two under for final nine holes — and card a three-over 74.

Junior Billy Whalen and sophomore Tyler Matthews also are representing the Commodores in South Carolina. Whalen shot four-over, while Matthew went plus-six.

UCF holds a four-stroke lead over Florida State in the team competition. Baylor and Wake Forest are tied for third, both 13 strokes back of the lead. Only four teams in the field of 15 were under par Sunday.

Monday’s second round begins at 9 a.m. CT. The Commodores will tee off from the 10th hole at 9:40 a.m. CT.
