LAREDO, Texas — Senior Luke List posted his fifth Top 10 in seven team events this season to lead the Commodore men’s golf team to a third place finish at the Laredo Country Club’s Border Olympics.to lead the Commodore men’s golf team to a third place finish at the Laredo Country Club’s Border Olympics.
Lamar won the team title with a three-round total of 835 — 19 strokes ahead of second place Baylor. The Bears were four strokes aheaf of Vanderbilt, which shot a 292 on Saturday to finish with a total of 858.
List shot a six-under 66 on Saturday to jump from 11th place to second at eight-under. Lamar’s Justin Harding finished two strokes ahead of teammate Dawie VanDerWalt, List and UT-Arlington’s Zack Reeves.
Sophomore Jon Curran also finished in the tournament’s Top 10. Curran’s three-round total of three-under tied him for 10th with Harris Graham of North Texas.
Senior Dos Goldsmith and junior Billy Whalen also scored for Vanderbilt on Saturday, posting similar four-over rounds of 76. Goldsmith finished the event in a tie for 32nd, while Whalen was 54th. Freshman Hudson Johnson finished Friday at one-over, but finished in a tie for 39th place after shooting a 78 in the final round.
The Commodores continue their preparations for the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships two more tournaments in the next month. Vanderbilt travels to the Hootie at Bull’s Bay (in Charleston, S.C.) next weekend.
