MT Continues Play at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team had a tough day of competition on Saturday with three players and two doubles teams being eliminated from competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Held at the Bill Moore Tennis Center, freshman Alex Zotov made the most noise of the day for Vanderbilt by advancing to the semifinals in the “B” singles draw before falling in three sets in the semifinals.

Zotov advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over D. Machuca of Southern Miss. In the semifinals, Zotov fell to Auburn’s T. Nugent, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

After posting two victories in the “A” singles main draw on Friday, both Vijay Paul and Nick Cromydas dropped quarterfinal matches on Saturday. Paul had a hard-fought three-set loss to G. Gomez of Georgia Tech, 6-0, 6-7 (7), 6-2. Cromydas fell to Georgia State’s N. Podkrajsek, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles competition, the Commodores team of Adam Baker and Evan Dufaux lost in the quarterfinals of the “A” bracket to Georgia Tech’s tandem of S. Blackmon and R. Smith, 8-3.

In the “B” bracket, Vanderbilt’s duo of James Moye and Scott Lieberman fell in the quarterfinals to Georgia Tech’s team of G. Bekkers and J. De Weerdt, 8-3.
