MG: 'Dores Break Par on Final Day

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on a strong note, shooting a one-under 287 in Sunday’s final round at the Ridges Golf and Country Club.

Freshman Adam Hofmann paced the Commodores on Sunday, carding a two-under 70 that included three birdies on his first five holes. In his second collegiate tournament, it was the first under-par round for Hofmann.

Senior Brett Lange went low for the second straight day, finishing with a one-under 71 Sunday. Lange had gone two-under on Saturday, and ended the tournament with the Commodores’ low score — a two-over 218. The Atlanta native placed 36th overall in the event.

Junior Jon Curran played even-par golf on Sunday to end the tournament at three-over, placing 41st. Freshman Ryan Haselden, playing in his first collegiate event, also scored for the Commodores at two-over. Sophomore Chris Rockwell’s five-over 77 was not counted in Sunday’s team score.

Virginia Tech claimed the team title over North Carolina on a fifth-golfer tiebreaker established in the tournament’s rule book. Tennessee’s Chris Paisley took individual medalist honors, edging Maryland’s Chris Gold and Kent State John Hahn by two strokes.

Vanderbilt plays host to its only home of the event of the season — the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate — beginning next Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
