Swim Team Finishes Fourth at WKU Invite

Bowling Green, Ky. – The Vanderbilt swim team finished fourth overall at the Western Kentucky Invitational over the weekend.

Sarah Treichel was the first Commodore to qualify for a final heat at the invite, finishing 14th in the 50 yard freestyle with a mark of 26.41 on Friday night. Diver Erika Walston capped off the first day of competition with a sixth place finish in the 1-meter diving event.

Treichel led the Commodores in the 100-yard butterfly, placing 11th in the final heat with a 1:04 finish on Saturday. Kim Lesnick was the first to earn points for Vanderbilt on Sunday, finishing 12th overall in the mile swim. 200-meter backstroke competitors Alex Walsh, Rebecca Rogers and Courtney Stahl all dropped seconds from their final time, including 14th place finisher Rogers who improved from 2:26 in the preliminaries to 2:21 in the final heat.

“Overall it was a big step for our program,” Assistant Swim Coach Shannon Van Curen said. “Coach Organ and I are very proud of the team. We have a lot of things to work on, but we are headed in the right direction.”

The Commodores next meet will be a dual against fellow SEC team Kentucky December 2 in Lexington, Kentucky.
