NCAA Individual Championship on Deck

Senior Fernanda Contreras and junior Christina Rosca will make their second consecutive appearances in the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday, competing in the Round of 64 at the USTA Tennis Complex in Orlando, Florida.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Fernanda Contreras and junior Christina Rosca will make their second consecutive appearances in the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday, competing in the Round of 64 at the USTA Tennis Complex in Orlando, Florida.

“Both Christina and Fernanda have had such great years. Fernanda is looking to close out her Commodore career and Christina looking to close out her junior year as All-Americans and hopefully earning strong runs in the Individual tournament,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald.

Sixth-ranked Fernanda Contreras will face Isabelle Boulais from Ohio State for a shot at advancing to the Round of 32.

Contreras enters Monday’s matchup fresh off a victory over Georgia’s No. 19 Marta Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-2, in the NCAA Elite Eight, capturing her 134th win as a Commodore.

Last season, Contreras advanced to the semifinal round, becoming only the second Commodore to ever compete in the NCAA singles semifinals. Contreras capped her junior year falling to Pepperdine’s No. 17 Ashley Lahey, 6-3, 6-3.

No. 16 seed Rosca will face Texas Tech’s Felicity Maltby after collecting her 30th victory of the season on Friday in the NCAA Elite Eight. Rosca took down Georgia’s Lourdes Carle, 7-5, 6-4.

Falling in last season’s Round of 64 to UCLA’s No. 9 Ena Shibahara, 6-2, 6-1, Rosca looks to make a comeback on Monday.

Rosca will take on Maltby at 3 p.m. CT followed by Contreras facing Boulais not before 5 p.m. CT. Both matches will be live on the Tennis Channel.
