Vanderbilt ranked second on D1Baseball bi-annual list

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt has been ranked as the nation’s No. 2 program in D1Baseball.com’s bi-annual Top 100 rankings, the publication announced Monday.

According to D1Baseball, the list places an emphasis on consistent winning in the last decade, particularly within the last five years, with the ultimate goal being to identify programs in the best shape currently with an eye towards the next five to 10 years.

The Commodores, who trail only Florida in the rankings, were ranked first in 2015 and second in 2017. Vanderbilt has posted two national titles in the last six seasons including setting an SEC record with 59 victories in route to its 2019 national title.

“The Commodores, as with other programs in the top five, have built into a gold standard in college baseball,” Kendall Rogers wrote for D1Baseball. “Vandy has an outstanding brand, a terrific academic profile and is one of the nation’s most respected programs. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Four of the top five on the list hail from the SEC including Arkansas at No. 3 and LSU at No. 4. Louisville rounds out the top-five, following by Oregon State, Florida State, Mississippi State, Texas Tech and TCU.

Vanderbilt has advanced to an SEC-best 14 consecutive NCAA Tournaments including eight NCAA Super Regionals in the last decade. The Commodores are the first school to reach the College World Series finals three times at TD Ameritrade Park and the first to capture multiple titles at the ballpark.

Vanderbilt opens fall training Oct. 8. Full-squad training sessions open to the public will take place Oct. 8-11. The squad will play two exhibitions, facing Oklahoma State in Kansas City on Oct. 26 before hosting Michigan on Nov. 10. The club will put on its annual Black and Gold Series from Nov. 12-16.
