TOWSON, Md. — Vanderbilt senior forward Molly Kinsella has been voted an ESPN first-team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Friday.

Kinsella is the first Commodore student-athlete to earn first-team status from CoSIDA since football standout Hunter Hillenmeyer was honored in 2002.

“I am extremely proud of Molly’s outstanding resume and this award could not have been more deserved,” VU Head Coach Ronnie Woodard said. “Molly is an outstanding example of the all-around excellence we celebrate and expect at Vanderbilt, and I’m sure this won’t be the last time we brag about her honors.”

Also a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Kinsella capped her collegiate career this month in Vanderbilt’s all-time Top 10 in goals, assists and points. The Memphis native, majoring in cellular and molecular biolgy, has carried a 3.89 grade point average through her four years at Vanderbilt. Kinsella already has been accepted to the Pharmacy School at the University of Tennessee-Memphis.

Kinsella scored scored five goals and added six assists for the Commodores, who took top-seeded Florida to the brink in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals on Nov. 4. For her VU career, she scored 26 goals and dished out 22 assists for a total of 74 points.

On top of her athletic and academic accomplishments, Kinsella also has spent countless hours working in the community. She teaches science lessons to middle school students through the Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science program and is involved in such philanthropic organizations as Habitat for Humanity, Make-a-Wish, St. Jude and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
