Looking for Low Scores in Louisiana

Vandy heads to LSU Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team faces another challenging weekend as it looks ahead to the LSU Invitational starting Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Played at the University Club, the 54-hole tournament features six teams ranked in the Golfstat top 25 – including No. 19 Vanderbilt. And while tough competition won’t be new for the Commodores, the location will be.

“I have not been to the University Club before, but I’ve heard good things,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “I believe it’s a pretty tough course that will reward discipline, patience and ball striking.

“It’s always fun going somewhere new and seeing how we can handle the unknown and grow forward together. It’s the time of year when we want to see people step up and see who can be depended on.”

Vandy began its spring season earlier this month with a trip to Gainesville, Florida, where it finished seventh at the Gators Invitational. William Moll and Reid Davenport each placed inside the top 20 of that event.

That duo, along with Harrison Ott, Matthew Riedel and Cole Sherwood will represent the Star V this weekend. Freshman Jansen Preston will be competing as an individual.

“I’m excited to see us show some progress this week from a team mentality standpoint,” Limbaugh said. “It is the coaches responsibility to help our guys understand just how much our actions determine our outcomes. We learn more about ourselves each time we get to compete and this week will certainly be no different.

“This is a another new lineup for us and we are excited to see Cole get his first start.”

Fifteen teams will hit the links for 18 holes Friday, 18 holes Saturday and 18 holes Sunday. The University Club course plays over 7,227 yards with a par 72.

Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas State, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee will join Vanderbilt and host LSU during this weekend’s tournament.

The Commodores are scheduled to tee off between 10-11 a.m. Friday. Live scoring throughout the weekend can be found HERE.

“I know when our team is excited and enthusiastic about playing our talent takes over,” Limbaugh said. “We need to be enthusiastic to take another step closer to being the team we want to be and that can be done by doing the little things more consistently than we did last tournament.  This team has to continue to be immersed in the moment we are in right now and embrace our climb.”
