Jack Leiter earns weekly conference honors for the third time this season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt student-athlete Jack Leiter was named SEC Newcomer of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.

Leiter returned to the mound Saturday at Ole Miss after taking the previous week off to pick up his eighth win of the season.

The Vanderbilt right-hander worked six innings of one-run baseball notching his sixth quality start of the campaign. He held the 18th-ranked Rebels to just two hits in the outing while striking out 13 batters.

Leiter faced 25 batters and punched out more than half the hitters he faced marking the seventh time this season he has recorded double-digit strikeouts. With the performance, Leiter now leads both the nation and the SEC in strikeouts with 119 on the season.

The Summit, New Jersey, native earned his third weekly conference honor of the season. Six different Vanderbilt student-athletes have earned weekly conference honors including Jack Bulger, Jayson Gonzalez, Dominic Keegan, Kumar Rocker and Carter Young.
