Laning leads men to strong finish at NCAA Regionals

Freshman, Nick Laning led the Commodores to the best NCAA South Regional finish in head coach Steve Keith's tenure.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Freshman, Nick Laning led the Commodores to the best NCAA South Regional finish in head coach Steve Keith’s tenure. Vanderbilt finished 13th overall in a field of 24 programs.

“I was proud of how we competed today,” said Keith. “It’s our highest finish for the men in my tenure.”

“For Nick to finish where he did at the Regional says a tremendous amount about him. I was proud of how the rest of the guys competed behind him.”

Laning led Vanderbilt for the fifth time this season, finishing 40th overall among 157 competitors with a time of 32:38.0. Jason Vincze followed his strong SEC Championship effort with another solid finish coming in at 32:46.8 to take 48th overall.

Harrison Thomas, Patrick Perrier and Caleb Casolaro filled out the scoring five for Vanderbilt, taking 73rd, 81st and 109th respectively. Thomas and Perrier were separated by 13 seconds as Thomas clocked in at 33:24.4 and Perrier crossed the finish line at 33:37.8. Casolaro completed the 8-kilometer race in 34:24.6.
