Keegan to the Rays

Dominic Keegan drafted by Tampa Bay

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Dominic Keegan was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon.

Keegan is the third Commodore taken in this year’s draft following Kumar Rocker and Spencer Jones’ selections in the first round on Sunday.

A senior leader for Vanderbilt, Keegan anchored the Commodore lineup throughout the 2022 season as one of two players to start all 62 games.

He boasted a team-high .371 batting average, which ranked third in the Southeastern Conference. His team-leading 67 RBI placed him fifth in the SEC.

Keegan posted 27 multi-hit games in 2022, while turning in 20 multiple-RBI outings to lead the Vanderbilt offense. He was tabbed to the All-SEC first ream, while being selected as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.

His career .345 batting average ties him for ninth all-time in Vanderbilt history.

The draft continues through round 10 on Monday followed by rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
