Joyce Named AAC Goalie of the Week

Maddie Barkate earned AAC honorable mention recognition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors Monday afternoon following the opening weekend of the season. Molly Joyce of Vanderbilt was named goalie of the week for the first time in her career while Maddie Barkate earned honorable mention.

Joyce, who made her first career start on Saturday at Cincinnati, helped anchor a Commodore defense posting a career-best seven saves on the afternoon. The Macedon, New York, native made just her second appearance in black and gold over the weekend. Her last outing came last season at No. 16 Johns Hopkins.

Graduate student Barkate posted a team-best five points off three goals and two assists and added four draw controls. Barkate came to Vandy ahead of the 2024 season from Harvard, where she spent her undergraduate career. The draw specialist set the Crimson’s season record with 119 draw controls as a senior to lead the Ivy League.

The Commodores will host No. 20 Clemson in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The game is slated to start at 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
