Vanderbilt begins ITA Kick-Off in Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team travels to Austin, Texas, to compete in the ITA Kick-Off hosted by the University of Texas beginning on Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.

Vanderbilt enters the kick off after a perfect start to dual matches with a 5-2 win over Nebraska followed by a 5-2 victory over Belmont last Saturday.

Vanderbilt will open the kick off against Florida State. The Seminoles enter the match undefeated boasting a 5-0 record.

In the last matchup between the two teams in 2002, the Commodores clinched the match over the Seminoles, 4-3. Vanderbilt leads the series, 3-0, over Florida State.

Last season, the Dores fell short to No. 18 Notre Dame, 4-0, in the first match of the ITA Kick-Off. In the consolation match, Vanderbilt downed Drake, 4-2, to conclude play in the tournament.

Joined by Indiana and Texas, the winner of this weekend’s tournament will earn a spot to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

Friday’s match will begin at 11 a.m. and admission to the Texas Tennis Center is free.
