Commodore swimming to take on Arkansas Friday morning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt swimming will take on its final SEC opponent of the regular season on Friday when it faces Arkansas at Centennial Sportsplex, with the meet scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Commodores swam against Kentucky in their most recent outing Jan. 3, after facing both South Carolina and Georgia the first half of the season.

The Dores were led by the senior duo of Mercedes Traba and Kailia Utley last time out against the Wildcats, with both placing in the top three in each of their races that day. The former was second in the 1,000 freestyle while also touching the wall third in the 500 free, with the latter posting respective second- and third-place results in the 200 and 100 butterfly as well.

Kate Heintz finished third in the 200 fly, with Reagan Mathieson ending up third in the 100 free and Emily Constable placing third in the 200 breaststroke also.

“With classes starting back up, the last few weeks have been about returning to our normal schedule and the routine of being a student-athlete,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “Going through that, being at home is a really big advantage for us going into tomorrow. I think this is going to be a good meet against a good Arkansas team that is coming in, the 10:30 a.m. start is a little different so we  will have to get up ready to swim fast.”

It will be the fourth season in a row that Vandy will compete against the Razorbacks, and the 16th meeting in the all-time series dating to the 2007-08 campaign.

As part of “Swim & Sweets” with Athlete Ally, donuts will be available to fans in attendance on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. Limited parking is available for free in the Centennial Sportsplex parking lot, while admission to the meet is free.
