Holton Named Freshman of the Week

Carter Holton receives weekly conference honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt baseball student-athlete Carter Holton was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday.

Holton posted a strong start this past weekend in the series finale at No. 22 Georgia. He tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out five to earn his sixth win on the campaign.

The freshman southpaw notched his fifth quality start on the year to help the Vandy pitching staff register its ninth shutout on the season – a total that leads the nation.

With the recognition, Holton earns his second conference honor this season. Four different Commodores have earned weekly conference awards this season, including Davis Diaz, Tate Kolwyck and Chris McElvain.

Vanderbilt returns to action on Tuesday evening, welcoming Indiana State to Hawkins Field for a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., with action airing live on SEC Network+.
