Harwell Honored

Vanderbilt senior named a 2021 All-SEC honoree

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s George Harwell has been named an All-SEC honoree by the conference office Friday morning, representing the Commodores with a Second Team nod.

One of Vanderbilt’s senior leaders and a mainstay at No. 1 singles and doubles, Harwell posted 24 victories across singles and doubles in 2020-21 while picking up multiple big singles wins. Throughout the spring season, Harwell defeated four ranked foes with highlight victories of 7-5, 7-6 (3) over No. 11 Finn Reynolds of Ole Miss and a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 20 Trent Bryde of Georgia.

Pairing with Max Freeman in doubles for most of the campaign, the duo posted a 6-4 win over No. 16 Johannes Ingildsen and Will Grant of No. 1 Florida while helping Vanderbilt win doubles against the Gators on the way to falling just short of an upset of the top-ranked team.

With the Commodores’ 2021 spring season complete, Vanderbilt now turns its attention to Monday evening and the announcement of the field for the NCAA Individual Championships, which will take place at the end of May in Orlando, Florida.
